Is medical grade skin care worth the hype (and the price)?

We've all done it - bought in to the latest trend or purchased products that promise to deliver amazing results only to be disappointed when we fail to see any benefits. In our opinion medical grade skin care does deliver results but yes, these come with a price tag.

Changes that come with ageing are not solely confined to the skin. We lose bone density, muscles and tendons become weaker and our facial fat compartments diminish. Medical grade skin care will not help with these concerns, however, injectables and surgery can.

So what are the benefits of medical grade skin care?

Medical grade skin care contains a higher percentage of active ingredients than products bought over the counter. These ingredients include retinol, tretinoin, vitamin C, alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) and polyhydroxyy acids (PHAs). The products have a higher penetration rate and target cells within the dermis directly through unique delivery systems. Results are usually seen within 3-6 months of continued use.

Feedback from patients and our own experiences has been positive. Skin appears firmer and more dense. Fine lines and wrinkles diminish, pigmentation and blemishes improve and skin generally looks healthier on the whole.

With any skin care regime consistency is the key and repeated continual use of most products will be beneficial. It is important to follow a regime that you can afford, unfortunately a 'wonder' cream does not yet exist.
